You should have your brakes checked at least once a year or at the first signs of a malfunction. Some signs would be a sluggish response when applying the brakes, high pitched squealing or metallic grinding noise. Brake pedal continues to go down to the floor after stopped; indicating a possible loss of pressure in the braking system.
Car manufacturers also recommend that the brake system should be flushed as well regularly, which consists of replacing the brake fluid and clearing the lines of air and moisture.
